How do we restore the mouri that has been lost?  

This is a complex task, but Kia Mouriora Te Kaiwharawhara Sanctuary to Sea (KMK/S2S) is tackling it, with a 100-year goal of restoring the mouri, or lifeforce, of the Kaiwharawhara catchment.   

However, we all need to do our part to help restore the mouri of the Kaiwharawhara and other urban water ways across the country.

In Wellington City, the Kaiwharawhara catchment is special – it's the biggest stream system, and it's the only one with an open estuary into  Wellington harbour. Volunteers ridding Highbury suburb of Old Man’s Beard

A group of volunteers are on a mission to rid Wellington of Old Man’s Beard, a vine that smothers our New Zealand native bush.

Following on from their success in clearing Old Man’s Beard from several reserves, the Old Man’s Beard Free Wellington (OMBFW) group now plan to clear the vine from the suburb of Highbury. Old Man’s Beard (Clematis Vitalba) is a vine that spreads rapidly in the New Zealand climate, smothering our native bush.

Two captive tuatara who have called Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne (Zealandia) home for the past decade have found a new home at Wellington Zoo.

Staff from Zealandia and Wellington Zoo, and representatives of Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Ngāti Koata, came together yesterday to move the sibling pair, Tāne and Tuahine.
