Step into a world of discovery, exploration, and adventure with your friends in the sanctuary. Spot native New Zealand wildlife and discover the tracks and trails as you walk through the sanctuary, guided by one of our friendly birthday party guides.

Full party package includes:

  • A birthday party guide who will look after your group from start to finish.

  • A 1.5 hour guided walk through Zealandia, price includes sanctuary admission.

  • A native New Zealand plant and wildlife spotting sheet and pencil for each child.

  • An Explorers’ Snack Pack from Zealandia’s Rātā Café; including cheese n' crackers, veggie sticks, Whittaker's cookie + juice box (Gluten Free and Vegetarian) 

  • 30 minutes at the end to enjoy your own birthday cake, the Explorer Snack Packs, and open presents if you wish, at a space reserved for you in Zealandia’s Visitors Centre.  

  • Cutlery, paper plates and napkins.

  • A room to store your cake and presents, while you are out in the sanctuary.

  • We will look after the set-up and clean up after the party.

  • Total time 2 hours – you are welcome to arrive 15 minutes early to set up.

Zealandia hosts birthday parties to raise funds to support our vital conservation work. The price charged for parties ensures we cover building, supply and staff costs with a small margin left for profit (this being the fundraising component).  Our parties are unique, and the price charged is comparable with other party services offered in the region.

Full party package: $336 minimum charge, 8 children and 2 adults. Maximum party size: 15 people, including adults and any pre-schoolers
Additional Child: $42
Additional Adult: $30 excluding food (we will allow two adults for free per party to help with supervision)
Pre-schoolers (aged 0-4): Free (food available on request)
Zealandia Members: 10% discount, birthday child must be part of the membership holder's household. Use code MEMBERS10 at the checkout and provide your membership number in the booking.

FAQs

Can I book a party without food? Yes, you may book the "Sanctuary Experience Only" option which is 2 hours in duration. This includes the birthday party guide who will look after your party while you are in the sanctuary. The price is $280 minimum charge, for 8 children and 2 adults. Additional children or adults are $30 each. Maximum 15 participants. This option excludes the venue space for cake and presents which is only available with a full party package. 

May I bring more than 15 people? Subject to availability. Please contact us first before making a booking for this size by emailing tours@visitzealandia.com

When should I arrive? You may arrive to set up 15 minutes prior to the party start time, if you have booked the full party package. Please ask your guests to arrive at the scheduled start time. Late arrivals will be able to join the group, our team will help you locate them in the sanctuary.

What should I wear? Dress to the conditions, with comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing and a waterproof layer just in case!

What should I bring with me on the day?  A sense of fun and adventure! Bottle of water. Sunscreen and hats on sunny days. Warm hats / beanies, on colder days. Bring your birthday cake and candles (if you have selected the full party package).

What if the weather is bad on the day of my tour? We go out in just about all conditions, so be prepared! In very extreme circumstances we may call off a tour for safety reasons. If this happens to your party we will let you know as soon as possible and do our best to arrange a new date.

Can my party go ahead at the Red Traffic Light Setting? No, parties are unable to go ahead at Red due to the restrictions on group sizes. Should Wellington move to Red, your party will be postponed to a new date. At Orange parties can go ahead, however masks are required to be worn whilst indoors (except for while eating). At Green there are no restrictions in place.
