KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST (who manage ZEALANDIA) welcome you to this web site. By using this site or any of the services offered or connected with it you agree to the following terms of use:
PURPOSE
The purpose of this site is to provide information relating to KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST and its services. Where products or services are offered for purchase over the Internet the terms of sale are as follows or as otherwise specifically stated in the relevant offer.
You agree that you will not publish any comment on this web site which may be considered defamatory, offensive or contrary to law.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
You agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply to the provision of any product or service by KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST for the purposes of a business.
Subject to any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, any liability under any:

PROVISION OF GOODS/SERVICES
- • You authorise KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST to deduct all costs KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST may incur in providing the goods or services to you, including but not limited to the cost of delivery or collection from you, all taxes or other duties payable.
- • You warrant that you are authorised to make the purchase.
- • Dates given for delivery of goods or completion of services are given in good faith but are not to be considered a condition of sale. You will not be entitled to cancel any orders because of a delay in delivery or completion of services outside the control of KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST.
- • Prices are subject to change without notice and unless otherwise stated, prices quoted are inclusive of Goods & Services Tax.
- • Without prejudice to its remedies under these Terms of Trade or any other agreement between the parties, KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST shall retain title to any goods supplied pending payment in full of all monies due to KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST by you.
- • Although ownership of the goods remain with KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST, you acknowledge that risk in the goods passes to you as soon as they are dispatched to you or used as part of the services requested by you.
COSTS
You will pay all actual costs of KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST incurred to collect any monies or enforce any obligation owing to KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST irrespective of how the debt or obligation arose, including all costs as between solicitor and client.
JURISDICTION
- • Use of this web site, any request for information, these terms and conditions, the provision of information, opinions or views, goods or services is to be construed and interpreted under New Zealand law.
- • KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST by virtue of the provision of this web site does not accept or submit to the jurisdiction of any authority in any jurisdiction other than New Zealand.
- • Any dispute arising from the use of this web site, request for information, these terms and conditions, the provision of information, opinions or views, goods or services is to be dealt with by the New Zealand Courts in Wellington and all parties to any dispute arising as aforesaid submit to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Courts in Wellington irrespective of where the parties to the dispute are based or the basis for the dispute is alleged to have arisen.

KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST reserves the right in its sole discretion to:

- • Take whatever action KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST considers appropriate to preserve its position, reputation and to avoid legal or any other action by third parties.

- • Should any provision in these terms and conditions be unenforceable or cannot be relied upon by KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST, all other provisions remain effective to the extent permitted by law.
- • These terms and conditions are effective until varied at the sole discretion of KARORI SANCTUARY TRUST.
REFUND POLICY – DONATIONS
Due to the nature of the transaction, no refunds will be issued.

Purchase Terms & Conditions
A. When you purchase Products via www.visitzealandia.com ("Website"), you acknowledge that you have read these terms and conditions and agree to be bound by them.
DEFINITIONS
"Delivery" has the meaning in paragraph 11, and "Delivered" shall have the same meaning.
"Donations" means any monetary donation you make to us through the Website.
"Force Majeure Events" means an event that is beyond our control that makes it impossible or impractical for us to comply with our obligations under these terms and conditions.
"GST" means goods and services tax in terms of the New Zealand Goods and Services Tax Act 1985, at the rate prevailing from time to time.
"Order" means an order for Products placed by you through this Website.
"Products" means all goods and/or services supplied by us through this Website now and at any time in the future, other than any tour of the Zealandia ecosanctuary.
"us", "we" or "our" means the Karori Sanctuary Trust.
"you" or "your" means the person who is interested in acquiring or has acquired any Products.
AVAILABILITY
1. If we accept your Order and the Product is not available, we will notify you and refund you the purchase price you paid for the Product and any postage cost charged. Dispatch times may also vary according to availability and are subject to delays resulting from postal delays or Force Majeure Events, for which we are not responsible.
PRICING AND ORDERS
2. All prices are stated in New Zealand dollars (NZ$) and include GST.
3. Prices displayed on the Website are subject to change without notice. Other than as set out in paragraph 4, prices for Products in an Order are fixed once your Order has been accepted. Subsequent price changes either up or down will not be retroactively applied to accepted Orders.
4. We may cancel your Order if there is an error in the price or description of the Product, or in the Order. Before cancelling your Order, we will notify you of our intention to cancel your Order. Upon cancellation, we will promptly refund your payment.
5. You will pay any insurance, customs related costs, import duties, taxes, freight, shipping, return fees or other charges relating to completing Delivery of the Order as advised by us.
6. You warrant that you are authorised to make the purchase. There is no obligation on us to inquire as to the authority of any person placing an Order on your behalf.
PAYMENT
7. All credit and debit card payments for all Products can be made through a secure DPS site. Your credit or debit card will be charged once your Order has been accepted and prior to Delivery. We are not responsible for any charges made by your own bank for such transaction fees or charges.
8. Alternative payment arrangements may be made by emailing us at visitors.centre@visitzealandia.com.
DELIVERY, RISK AND SECURITY
9. No Order will be Delivered until payment has been received in full, and the funds cleared.
10. Delivery will be made to the address nominated by you on the Order.
11. Your Order shall be deemed to be Delivered to you when:
(a) in respect of a goods ordered, a designated carrier collects such Order from our premises; and
(b) in respect of services, used as part of the services requested by you.
12. Dates given for Delivery of goods or completion of services are given in good faith but are not to be considered a condition of sale. You will not be entitled to cancel any Orders because of a delay in Delivery.
13. Risk of any loss, damage or deterioration of or to the Products passes to you on Delivery. Title to your Order also passes to you at the time of Delivery.
REFUNDS AND RETURNS
14. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your Order, please call us directly. You will find our contact details on this Website and in the email that is sent to you confirming dispatch of your Order.
15. To the extent permitted by law, unless the Products you have received are faulty or defective, and you notify us of this fault or defect within 7 days after receiving the Product, there are strictly no returns or refunds. You will bear any postage cost required to send us the faulty or defective Product.
16. If it is determined by us, at our absolute discretion (acting reasonably), that the Products are faulty or defective, we will use reasonable endeavours to repair or replace the Product, and you acknowledge that this is your sole remedy in relation to any faulty or defective Product. If we are unable to repair or replace the Product, we will give you a refund of the purchase price you paid for your Product (not including any postage cost, customs duty or other charges).
17. Any Donations made via the Website are unconditional and non-refundable unless otherwise agreed by us.
EXCLUSION AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
18. To the extent permitted by law, any condition or warranty which would otherwise be implied into these terms and conditions is hereby excluded. This does not attempt or purport to exclude liability under statute if, and to the extent, such liability cannot be lawfully excluded (such as under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993).
19. To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any damage, loss, cost, or expense arising out of or relating to the supply of Products to you.
20. In any event, to the extent permitted by law, any claim for damage, loss, cost or expense that arises out of or relating to the supply of Products to you, including any economic or consequential loss incurred, is limited to the value of the Products supplied by us.
21. You indemnify and hold us free from any claims, liabilities, losses, damages and expenses of any kind incurred in connection with your use of any Products ordered.
PRIVACY
22. Our privacy policy forms part of these terms and conditions. Our privacy policy can be accessed at http://www.visitzealandia.com/privacy-policy.
CONSUMER LAW
23. We contract out of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 in relation to business customers to the extent permitted by law. To the extent that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies to these terms and conditions, nothing in these terms limits your rights under that Act.

1. Introduction
1.1 We operate Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne, a fully fenced 225-hectare urban ecosanctuary located at 53 Waiapu Road, Karori, Wellington 6012 (the “Premises”).
1.2 When you enter the Premises or book a Tour, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”).
2. Definitions
2.1 “Admission Fee” means the fee for entry onto the Premises, as notified on our website from time to time.
2.2 “Fee” means the applicable fee for the relevant Tour.
2.3 “Member” means a person who holds a current membership permitting entry onto the Premises.
2.4 “Visitor” means any member of the public entering the Premises, whether that be part of a tour, general admission, complementary or membership visit.
2.5 “Private Tour” means a privately organised Tour.
2.6 “Standard Operating Hours” are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day except for Christmas Day, being 25 December in any given year.
2.7 “Tour” means any tour of the Premises whereby a guide sourced by us accompanies a group of people.
2.8 “The Zealandia Team” means all people entering the sanctuary on official Zealandia business, including staff, volunteers, contractors, and researchers.
2.9 “We”, “us”, or “our” means the Karori Sanctuary Trust.
3. General Conditions of Entry
3.1 All visitors must stay on public access tracks and abide by all Health, Safety, and Wellbeing instructions and signage.
3.2 All visitors must abide by biosecurity requests, signage, and instructions, including carrying out a bag check on entry.
3.3 We reserve the right to remove any Visitor from any Tour / the Premises and/or cancel memberships for any person(s) we reasonably believe to be:
(a) Endangering the safety and wellbeing of any member of the Zealandia Team or other visitors;
(b) Impeding our activities or impeding or preventing members of the Zealandia Team from conducting their duties; or
(c) Interfering with the enjoyment of other visitors
(d) Endangering wildlife or the restoration of the sanctuary
(e) Otherwise harming Zealandia property.
3.4 Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
3.5 Personal photography and video are permitted on the Premises.
3.6 Drones are not permitted to be flown on the premises.
3.7 Visitors are not permitted to have dogs on the Premises unless they are an appropriately certified service dog, you have notified us prior to your visit, and can provide evidence of their certification.
3.8 Smoking and vaping are not permitted at any time on the Premises.
4. Availability
4.1 Unless we have notified you otherwise, we reserve the right to change opening hours, Tour times, and displays at any time, without notice.
4.2 Visitors are not permitted to enter the Premises outside of our Standard Operating Hours, except where you have booked a Tour.
4.3 During our Standard Operating Hours, you are permitted to access the Premises upon payment of an Admission Fee. You do not have to pay the Admission Fee if you have already paid a Fee for a Tour.
4.4 Self-guided tour groups are permitted on the Premises, provided that you notify us prior to entry, and such tour groups are prohibited from using or engaging an external tour guide that is not employed by us.
5. Tour Bookings
5.1 You may book a Private Tour with us for a number of people in your group, and if you would like a more personalised Tour.
5.2 If you require our staff to work alongside a translator because your group or a member of your group is non-English speaking, you must inform us in advance.
5.3 Subject to availability and provided you notify us when you book a Private Tour, we can arrange for the provision of headsets, should you or a member of your group require this.
5.4 Our ability to host Private Tours is subject to availability.
5.5 We welcome wheelchair users, deaf or blind visitors, and visitors with other impairments on our day tours, but we ask you to please book ahead. We recommend bringing a carer or companion, who are eligible for a 50% discount on the regular tour price . Public (scheduled) afterhours tours are not suitable for wheelchair users, deaf or blind visitors, but we are happy to arrange for your needs on a Private Tour.
6. Payment
6.1 Our Purchase Terms and Conditions form part of these Terms.
6.2 To book a Tour, payment in advance by credit card is required unless we have agreed to accept a different payment method at our discretion.
6.3 To book a Private Tour, we require a deposit payment to confirm the booking. The deposit payment will be the amount of the minimum charge for every tour group (up to 12 pax). The balance payment is due 14 days before your tour date. If your booking is for a date within the next 14 days, we ask you to pay 100% of the fee at the time of booking.
7. Cancellation and Refunds
7.1 Cancellation Policy for scheduled Tours:
(a) If you cancel your booking of a scheduled Tour with at least 48 hours’ notice, you will not be liable to pay the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will be entitled to a 100% refund.
(b) If you give us less than 48 hours’ notice, you remain liable to pay 100% of the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will not be entitled to a refund.
7.2 Cancellation Policy for Private Tours:
(a) If you cancel your booking of a Private Tour with at least 14 days’ notice, you will not be liable to pay the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will be entitled to a 100% refund.
(b) If you give us less than 14 days’ notice, you remain liable to pay 100% of the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will not be entitled to a refund.
7.3 If we cancel your booking of a scheduled or Private Tour:
(a) Tours can still proceed in the event of rainy, windy, or other inclement weather.
(b) We reserve the right to cancel a Tour due to unsafe weather conditions or any other unforeseen circumstances. If we cancel a Tour, you will not be liable to pay the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will be entitled to a 100% refund.
7.4 Notice must be given in writing or via phone within our office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
7.5 If you fail to arrive for a Tour, arrive too late, or are turned away from a Tour because you fail to meet the age or safety requirements outlined in the Tour description, you remain liable to pay 100% of the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, you will not be entitled to a refund.
8. Booking Amendments
8.1 Changes to Your Booking for a Scheduled Tour
8.1.1 You may make changes to your booking for a scheduled tour without penalty, provided you give us at least 48 hours’ notice. When changing your booking to a Tour with a different fee, you are liable to pay the difference or are entitled to a refund of the difference (whichever applies).
8.1.2 If you move your booking to another date and give us less than 48 hours’ notice, you are liable to pay a booking amendment fee of $10 per ticket. The booking amendment fee is payable at the time of changing the booking.
8.1.3 If you change your booking to another Tour (e.g., Zealandia by Day instead of Zealandia by Night) and give us less than 48 hours’ notice, you remain liable to pay 100% of the Fee of the originally booked Tour, or where you have already paid the Fee, not be entitled to a refund. In case the new Tour is set at a higher price, you are always liable to pay the difference.
8.1.4 If you reduce the number of people on your booking with less than 48 hours’ notice, we will treat this as a partial cancellation, and you will be liable to pay 100% of the Fee, or where you have already paid the Fee, not be entitled to a refund.
8.1.5 Notice must be given in writing or via phone within our office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
8.2 Changes to Your Booking for a Private Tour
8.2.1 You may make scheduling changes to your booking for a Private Tour without penalty, provided you give us at least 14 days’ notice. Booking amendments are subject to availability.
8.2.2 If you change your booking to another Private Tour type (e.g., Zealandia by Day instead of Zealandia by Night) and give us at least 14 days’ notice, you are liable to pay the difference or are entitled to a refund of the difference (whichever applies).
8.2.3 If you change your booking to another Private Tour type (e.g., Zealandia by Day instead of Zealandia by Night) and give us less than 14 days’ notice, you remain liable to pay 100% of the Fee of the originally booked Private Tour, or where you have already paid the Fee, not be entitled to a refund. In case the new Private Tour is set at a higher price, you are always liable to pay the difference.
8.2.4 If you move your Private Tour booking to another date and give us less than 14 days’ notice, you are liable to pay a booking amendment fee of $50. The booking amendment fee is payable at the time of changing the booking.
8.2.5 Final Private Tour numbers are due 14 days before your booked tour date. If you reduce the number of people on your booking with less than 14 days’ notice, we will treat this as a partial cancellation, and you will be liable to pay 100% of the Fee for the numbers previously confirmed, or where you have already paid the Fee, not be entitled to a refund.
8.2.6 Notice must be given in writing or via phone within our office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
9. Terms and Conditions Applying to Afterhours Tours
9.1 The following additional terms and conditions apply to all Tours that take place outside our Standard Operating Hours:
9.1.1 No dogs (including appropriately certified service dogs) are permitted on the Premises after hours.
9.1.2 No one under the age of 5 is permitted in the valley afterhours. All minors (5-17 years of age) must be accompanied by an adult. Tour-specific age restrictions apply, please see the Tour descriptions for more details.
9.1.3 No more than 12 people may be on any afterhours tour (up to 4 tours may be run each night), unless otherwise approved.
9.1.4 Please see the Tour description for other Tour-specific terms & conditions.
9.1.5 Where a booking is made by a Member, and the Member has paid a discounted price on the Tour, a valid membership card must be presented at the pre-tour check-in process. Failure to present a valid membership card will require the difference between the full Fee and the discounted price to be paid prior to commencement of the Tour.
9.1.6 Where a booking is made by a New Zealand student or a senior Gold Card holder and a concession price has been paid on the Tour, a valid student card or Gold Card (as the case may be) must be presented at the pre-tour check-in process. Failure to present a valid student card or Gold Card (as the case may be) will require the difference between the full Fee and the concession price to be paid prior to commencement of the Tour.
10. Other
10.1 If you need to cancel or modify a booking for a Private Tour that is part of a function being held on the Premises, the more stringent conditions between the tour terms and conditions or the functions terms and conditions will govern any cancellations or changes to group size. ZEALANDIA MEMBERSHIP TERMS & CONDITIONS
Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne and thank you for being part of our member community. Zealandia is managed by Karori Sanctuary Trust, a not-for-profit community-led organisation. We appreciate our members' support and acceptance of the terms and conditions below.
Using your Zealandia Membership
The Zealandia Visitors Centre and sanctuary is open every day, except for Christmas Day and due to any unforeseen circumstances, e.g. a severe weather event. Please refer to the website for opening hours for the Visitors Centre, Zealandia Store, Rātā Cafe and Sanctuary.
Your Zealandia Membership card must be presented on arrival at Zealandia to receive all privileges and cannot be used for commercial purposes.
Your Zealandia Membership is not transferable and only those named on the membership can access member privileges.
Upon signing up to a Zealandia membership, you will be subscribed to our monthly email newsletter list. You may unsubscribe at any time from promotional emails, however we retain the right to contact you by email regarding membership; expiration, payments, receipts, and for notices of the annual general meeting.
Membership benefits
Members can access the following benefits whilst holding an active membership:
- Unlimited free general admission to the Zealandia sanctuary during opening hours.
- Half price general admission entry to the Zealandia Sanctuary for up to 5 friends, per visit.
- 50% off Zealandia By Day and Zealandia By Night public tours.
- 10% off the majority of items in the Zealandia Store and Rātā Cafe.
- Regular member newsletters with conservation updates, special invitations, and deals.
These benefits are subject to periodic review and adjustment at the discretion of Zealandia.
Using these benefits
Members must be in attendance on the day to access half-price general admission for friends.
Tour discounts are only available for those listed on the membership. Upon arrival for your pre-booked tour please present your membership card and we will validate your discount.
Membership duration
Memberships are valid from the date of purchase (or date of activation if a gift membership) for the specified membership period (e.g. one year) and need to be renewed to remain active. If you wish to extend your membership for a longer-term, please contact us by emailing membership@visitzealandia.com
Membership fees
Fees vary based on the type of membership purchased. Please refer to the Zealandia website for current membership fees.
Membership types
- Adult – for those aged 18+
- Additional Adult – for those aged 18+ in addition to at least one other full paying adult. Maximum of 4 additional adults per membership.
- Concession – for seniors (aged 65+ with NZ Gold Card ID) and for students (with valid NZ secondary or tertiary ID).
- Family Membership – for one - two adults and up to three children. You may add on additional adults e.g. a nanny or other caregiver, or add on a concession adult, e.g. a grandparent. Maximum of 4 additional adults per membership.
- Additional Child – aged 5 – 17 years of age, must be purchased with a full paying adult, family membership, or concession adult, e.g. a grandparent.
- Non-paying child – aged 0 – 4 years, there is no charge for babies and pre-schoolers however please add them onto your membership (they will receive their own membership card), once your child turns 5 years, we will contact you to add them onto your membership.
Membership changes
Please contact us if you need to add or remove members on your membership. Additional members may be added to an existing membership during the membership term, for the full annual fee.
Membership renewal
Members will be invited to renew their membership via email, before expiry. Instructions to pay via the Zealandia Hub or other payment method will be provided.
Memberships will automatically renew if you have an automatic renewal payment set up with us.
To keep your membership active you need to renew before the expiration date by paying for another 1-year term. If you wish to renew for a longer-term, please contact us by emailing membership@visitzealandia.com
Payment methods
Membership payments and renewals can be made in-person at the Visitors Centre by cash or eftpos.
Memberships can also be purchased and renewed on our website using the Zealandia Hub, payment can be made using all major credit and debit cards. Through the Zealandia Hub you can set your membership to auto-renew every year on the expiry date, via credit card payment.

Payments over the phone with credit card will attract a 2% credit card processing fee.
Note that payments via direct debit and cheque are no longer accepted.
Membership refunds
Memberships are non-refundable. In the event of exceptional circumstances cancellation or extending your membership term may be considered by Zealandia. Either a full or partial refund, or voucher / store credit may be provided. Please contact us to discuss by emailing membership@visitzealandia.com.
Conditions of entry to Zealandia
Members are expected to adhere to the General Conditions of Entry for all visitors to Zealandia. These apply to all ‘Zealandia Premises’, including the carparks, the Visitor Centre and Café, and the sanctuary itself. The conditions are listed above.
Membership Cancellation
Zealandia reserves the right to cancel a membership without refund if a member breaches any of the terms and conditions outlined herein or engages in behaviour that is deemed to be in violation of the rules, regulations, and guidelines established by Zealandia.
Changes to terms and conditions
Zealandia reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time. Members will be notified of changes via email or through the official Zealandia website.
By purchasing a Zealandia membership, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms and conditions.
